In this assignment you will make two portraits on
location (outside the studio) to show that you have an understanding of how to
establish a balance between your strobe light(s) and the available light.
Two separate shots are due for this
assignment. You must photograph a person in an interior and exterior setting:
• Make two separate images (one inside, one
outside)
• Shoot a minimum of 3 different
compositions for each set.
• Shoot both images using a 35 mm DSLR
camera.
• Show an intentional relationship between
the strobe light and the available light.
• Have two different lighting situations.
• Notebook: Lighting Diagrams, Technical
Info, outtakes, and ideas.
Interior setting: The strobe will be the
key light, but the ambient light must be critical to the success of the image.
Exterior setting: The strobe can be either
key or fill light with the ambient light being critical to the success of the
image.
No images should be completely dominated by
strobe or by available light.
Show a conscious and intentional balance
between strobe and non-strobe light.
You must shoot outdoors and inside. You may
use more than one light, as long as you're taking advantage of available light.
You may use gels on your light(s) for warming, cooling or for color correction.
